R.O.C.K. Visits E. Heights Elementary School near Henderson, KY

Over 100 fourth graders from East Heights Elementary School near Henderson, Kentucky participated in a Geology presentation given by MCS Quality Control Manager, Bob Lingerfelt, in February.  The students listened to Lingerfelt’s presentation on the three types of rocks and saw samples of various rocks, including some from our quarries.  Students also participated in the geology activity, ‘Is it a Rock or a Mineral?’.  Students received four types of candy and were asked which represented a rock and which a mineral.  Two of the four types of candy were a Hershey’s Kiss and a Hershey’s Kiss with Almonds.  Can you guess which one represented a rock and which a mineral?  Minerals are homogenous, made up of one material, and Rocks are made up of two or more minerals.  Now can you guess?
